 Monastary On Nui Bah Den

Monastery on the North side of Nui Bah Den. This is the site of a LRRP extraction on July 8 1968. The LRRP's had been pinned down for 4 days with little ammo and no water. The Diamondhead gunships with the help of a Diamondhead smoke ship made it possible for the extraction. An OH-6 hovered up the back side of the cliff and removed the team one at a time on the skids. The pilot left the gunner and PP off for the remaining trips to keep the risk factor to a minimum. This event is recorded in the book," Rangers At War", written by Shelby L. Stanton starting on page 140.
